Description of RCE and Geographic Region:
The RCE Mauricie/Centre-du-Québec, or the Centre d’expertise régional en éducation au développement durable (CERED) Mauricie/Centre-du-Québec in French, was officially launched in March 2013 by the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) and the Chemin-du-Roy School Board (Chemin-du-RoyScB) respectively represented by Ghislain Samson and Claude Poudrier, co-founders of the RCE.
The territory covered by the RCE’s work extends to the limits of the Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec regions located in the Canadian province of Quebec. Over 490 000 people live within the 50 000 km2 territory covered by the RCE.
The St-Lawrence River runs between the two regions. It is one of the most environmentally, socially and economically significant waterways in Canada. The Laviolette Bridge crosses the river and ensures a permanent link between the two riverside cities of Trois-Rivières and Bécancour. It also symbolises the existing partnerships between the two regions.
Since its launch in 2013, the RCE Mauricie/Centre-du-Québec has been hard at work establishing itself as a key partner for sustainable development in the region. This work is carried out according to an annual action plan. The second action plan was recently adopted and is available through our website (French only).
