RCE Mogadishu

Overview

RCE Mogadishu, hosted by Samale Institute, is part of the global RCE network promoting Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Somalia. Its goal is to address local sustainability challenges through education, community engagement, and partnerships. The vision is to foster a resilient, sustainable society by integrating ESD into formal and informal learning systems. Objectives include raising awareness on environmental, social, and economic sustainability, empowering communities with skills for sustainable livelihoods, and supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By leveraging local expertise and collaboration, RCE Mogadishu aims to drive positive change and build a sustainable future for Somalia.

Activities

The project “Enhancing Teachers’ Effectiveness in Somalia,” launched in February 2022, focuses on improving the skills and capabilities of primary and secondary school teachers across Mogadishu, Somalia. By providing targeted training, resources, and support, the initiative aims to enhance teaching methodologies, classroom management, and subject knowledge. The goal is to empower educators, improve student learning outcomes, and strengthen the overall education system. This project plays a vital role in building a sustainable and resilient educational foundation for Somalia’s future.

ENHANCING TEACHERS’ EFFECTIVENESS IN SOMALIA

The “Empowering Youth for Sustainable Entrepreneurship” program, launched in September 2023, focuses on equipping young people in Mogadishu, Somalia, with essential skills for sustainable entrepreneurship. Through training, mentorship, and resource provision, the initiative aims to foster innovation, economic self-reliance, and job creation among youth. By addressing unemployment and promoting sustainable business practices, the project empowers participants to contribute to Somalia’s economic growth and long-term development, aligning with broader goals of sustainability and youth empowerment.

Empowering youth for sustainable entrepreneurship: a skills development project in Mogadishu, Somalia

The “Greening Public Schools in Mogadishu” initiative, launched in May 2021, focuses on transforming public schools into environmentally sustainable spaces. By integrating green practices such as tree planting, waste management, and energy efficiency, the project aims to create healthier, eco-friendly learning environments for students. This initiative not only promotes environmental awareness but also supports the broader goals of sustainability and climate resilience in Somalia. Through community engagement and collaboration, it seeks to inspire a culture of environmental stewardship among students, teachers, and the wider community.
