The core area in RCE Salisbury’s region constitutes the “shore counties” or those that reside either within or on the Chesapeake Bay (watershed) and along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The Chesapeake Bay Watershed covers 64,000 square miles; includes parts of six states (Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York) and Washington, D.C.; has 11,684 miles of shoreline, including tidal wetlands and islands (that’s more shoreline than the entire West Coast of the United States). This RCE location, which emphasizes conflict prevention and creative problem solving, will help us network together, discover synergies, support one another’s efforts, and increase our collective efforts to address the educational, environmental, ecological, and socio-cultural challenges in our region.
